Jorge Guimarães

President, EMBRAPII (Brazil)

Jorge Almeida Guimarães presently is the President of EMBRAPII, The Brazilian Agency for Industrial Research and Innovation, holds a Ph.D. degree from Federal University of São Paulo and a post-doctoral in Biochemistry, at the National Institute of Health (NIH) – USA. He has held teaching and research positions in several Brazilian Universities, including a Full Professor at the Federal Universities of Rio de Janeiro, Federal Fluminense, and Rio Grande do Sul. In different periods, he worked as Visiting Research Fellow at Henry Ford Hospital, Cornell University Medical College and at the University of Arizona. He has published 170 scientific articles in international journals and three dozen of other texts about science policy in Brazil. He was Chief Executive Officer – CEO in the Science and Technology of Government Agencies in Brazil. He is recipient of several prizes and awards an example of Brazilian National Great Cross of the Order of Scientific Merit.
